Mobility

 Mobility is important for the quality of life of an ageing population, and is a particular interest of  Population Ageing Associates.  Recent studies in which PAA partners have taken a leading role include:

  •       Feasibility study for the Department of Transport on 'Evaluating Measures to Enhance the Mobility of Older and Disabled Persons';

  •       Review of age discrimination in transport;

  •       Review of transport policies  for an ageing population;

  •       Technology evaluation study for navigation aids for the visually impaired.

In addition, David Metz works on human mobility more generally, including the implications for transport policy.  PAA has published a report 'Travel Time Constraints in Transport Policy', the results of a study funded by the Department of Transport.  A summary paper has been published in the journal 'Ingenia'.

 His publications include:

  •       Transport policy for an ageing population, Transport Reviews, 27, 375-386, 2003

  •       Age Discrimination in Transport, in Age Discrimination in Public Policy: a review of the evidence, Help the Aged, 2002.

  •        Mobility of Older People and their Quality of Life, Transport Policy, 7, 149-52, 2000.

Enquiries about PAA's work on mobility should be addressed to david.metz@populationageing.co.uk.
